Address Reclamation

Description: Address reclamation is an essential process in network management based on the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). This process allows for the recovery of IP addresses that have been previously assigned to devices on a network but are no longer in use. When a device disconnects or powers off, the IP address it occupied may remain inactive. Address reclamation enables these IP addresses to be reintegrated into the pool of available addresses, thereby optimizing the use of IP address space and preventing shortages in large networks. This process is carried out by configuring lease times, which determine how long an IP address can be assigned to a device before being released. If a device does not renew its lease, the IP address is considered recoverable and can be reassigned to another device that needs it. Address reclamation is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and functionality of networks, especially in environments where devices frequently connect and disconnect, such as in offices or public networks.
