Alias Target

Description: An alias target is the AWS resource that an alias record points to. In the context of Amazon Web Services (AWS), alias records are a feature of Amazon Route 53, AWS’s Domain Name System (DNS) service. Unlike traditional DNS records, which point to IP addresses or domain names, alias records allow users to point to specific AWS resources, such as Amazon S3 buckets, Amazon CloudFront distributions, or Elastic Load Balancing instances. This functionality simplifies DNS management by eliminating the need to know the underlying IP addresses of resources, as AWS automatically resolves these names. Additionally, alias records can be used at the root of a domain, which is not possible with traditional CNAME records. This provides greater flexibility and efficiency in configuring domains and subdomains within cloud infrastructures. In summary, an alias target is essential for the seamless integration of cloud services with domain name management, facilitating the creation of scalable and resilient architectures in the cloud.
