Bronchitis

Description: Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes that carry air to and from the lungs. This condition can be acute or chronic. Acute bronchitis, usually caused by viral infections, occurs suddenly and typically lasts a few weeks. On the other hand, chronic bronchitis is a long-term condition, often resulting from continuous exposure to irritants such as tobacco smoke or air pollution. Common symptoms include persistent cough, mucus production, shortness of breath, and wheezing. Bronchitis can affect people of all ages, but it is more common in those with weakened immune systems or smokers. Inflammation of the bronchi can lead to complications if not properly treated, such as more severe lung infections. Early identification and treatment are crucial to prevent deterioration of lung function and improve the patient’s quality of life. Additionally, bronchitis can be an indicator of other underlying respiratory conditions, making it a topic of interest in respiratory medicine.
