Passive

Description: In the context of EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol), the ‘Passive’ state refers to a condition where a router does not actively send routing update packets but still participates in the routing process. This means that while the router is not sending routing information to other devices, it can still receive and process routing information from other routers in the network. This state is useful in situations where a router may be in a network that does not require constant updates, such as in a stable topology or in an environment where minimizing network traffic is desired. In the passive state, the router keeps its routing table updated based on the information it receives, but does not actively contribute to the exchange of routing information. This behavior can be advantageous for reducing the load on the network and optimizing resource usage, especially in large or complex networks. The transition between active and passive states can be controlled by specific configurations on the router, allowing network administrators to manage routing protocol behavior according to network needs.
