Tundra

Description: Tundra is a biome characterized by its cold temperatures and sparse vegetation, primarily consisting of mosses, lichens, and some herbaceous plants. This ecosystem is found in Arctic regions and on mountain tops in more temperate zones, where climatic conditions are extreme. Tundra is distinguished by its frozen soil, known as permafrost, which limits the growth of plant roots and affects local fauna. Despite its inhospitable appearance, tundra is home to a variety of species adapted to its environment, such as arctic foxes, hares, and migratory birds. Tundra plays a crucial role in the global ecological balance, acting as an important carbon sink, helping to mitigate climate change. Although it is not a typical habitat for pandas, studying it can provide valuable insights into species’ adaptability to extreme conditions and the challenges they face in a constantly changing world.
