Uveitis

Description: Uveitis is an inflammation of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye that consists of three parts: the iris, the ciliary body, and the choroid. This condition can affect people of any age and can be unilateral (affecting one eye) or bilateral (affecting both eyes). Uveitis can be caused by various reasons, including infections, autoimmune diseases, trauma, or it may even be idiopathic, meaning no identifiable cause. The most common symptoms include redness of the eye, pain, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light. Uveitis is a serious medical condition that can lead to complications such as cataracts, glaucoma, or even vision loss if not properly treated. Therefore, timely diagnosis and treatment by an ophthalmologist are crucial. Treatment may include the use of corticosteroids to reduce inflammation, as well as immunosuppressive medications in more severe cases. Uveitis not only affects ocular health but can also significantly impact the patient’s quality of life, as vision is essential for many daily activities.
